The second largest hub in the Amazon, the air taxi in Belém is widely used, especially because of the region’s fluvial configuration. The capital of Pará is one of the main cities in Northern Brazil, exerting a strong economic, cultural, and political influence not only in the state, but also in neighbors such as Amapá and Maranhão.

And when it comes to culture, Belém stands out as one of the most unique capitals in the country. The city still lives today with a mix of native traditions and European influences, especially Portuguese and French, which have marked the local history. Even from France came the nickname “Paris Tropical”, reflected in the art deco architecture that Europeans brought to Belém.

Every year, the city receives thousands of tourists interested in the city’s various churches, monuments, museums, and fortifications. In this sense, the main symbol of Belém is the Ver-o-Peso Market, one of the oldest in Brazil. In the 17th century, the place functioned as a commercial warehouse for the goods that circulated in the Amazon. Currently, the popular Verópa receives more than 50 thousand people and moves one million reais every day.

Another attraction that receives many tourists is the Estação das Docas. What used to be a space with large iron warehouses was transformed into a cultural and gastronomic hub on the edge, with a range of more than 500 meters. There, you can discover some of the treasures of local food, such as tacacá, maniçoba, desserts based on local fruits – such as cupuaçu, muruci, and tucumã – and, of course, taste the real açaí, with tapioca and fish.

The biggest attraction of Belém, however, is the Círio de Nazaré, considered by Unesco as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Catholic procession, in honor of Our Lady of Nazareth, is one of the biggest events in the world and brings together more than two million people on the streets, attracting people from all over the planet. It has been held since 1793, when it was instituted by the Portuguese.

The Círio procession is not the only event in the capital of Pará, however. The urban infrastructure positioned Belém as part of the ten most sought after Brazilian cities for large events, according to a survey by Sebrae.

Among the main events hosted, are: the Pan-Amazonian Book Fair, the fourth largest of its kind in the country; the Feira Supernorte, which with around 50 thousand participants is the largest annual business event in the North region; the Amazon International Tourism Fair (Fita); and Amazônia Fashion Week, the largest fashion event in the North region.

The city is also a starting point for tourist options in the surrounding area. Around Belém, there are several islands, such as Cotijuba and Combu, with popular freshwater beaches. Going a little further, it is possible to discover the two most popular destinations when it comes to ecotourism in Pará: Santarém (where Alter do Chão is) and Altamira – both accessible by air taxi in Belém.

Air Taxi in Belém: Discover the Airports

The main airport in the North of Brazil is located in the capital of Pará: Belém International Airport – Júlio Cezar Ribeiro (BEL; SBBE), also known as Val de Cans, the name of the neighborhood where it is located. Having been the first equipment to adopt Infraero’s current construction standard, the aerodrome is still considered today as one of the most modern in the country, receiving direct flights, for example, from Portugal and the United States.

Closer to the city center is Belém Airport – Brigadeiro Protásio de Oliveira (SBJC). Formerly home to commercial flights, the structure is now designed to receive air taxi users in Belém and executive flights in general. The aerodrome, however, already has a scheduled date for deactivation: December 31, 2021. After that, the site will be transformed into a park and the operation will be transferred to Val de Cans.
